A key focus is to enhance learners' awareness of tonal nuances effectively. It has been observed that even advanced learners struggle with high error rates in tone production due to limited guidance and a lack of conscious awareness of tonal distinctions. While proper pronunciation instruction is undeniably important, many learners face significant hurdles in addressing pronouncing inaccuracies within second language classes aimed at achieving basic conversational skills in a brief period.
The methodology proposed here favors a gradual acquisition process, incorporating polysyllabic perceptual training. The perception questions have been meticulously designed based on prior research, catering to learners who require more manageable tasks. This includes exercises involving tones differentiated by varying pitch ranges and heights, which aim to facilitate a more structured understanding of tonal characteristics.
